Marfells Beach DOC Campsite

This NZ Department of Conservation campground sits right on the Pacific. It's a scant 40 km from Blenheim, on the road to Kaikoura. You turn off 1, drive east a bit, and there it is, spread before you like a banquet.

We park just as close to the beach as we can without toppling into the dunes. Again, DOC rates apply: NZ $8 per person. With the current favorable exchange rate, about US $10.50 per night for both of us. All this and flush toilets too...

Inside or out, the view is sublime and the crashing waves a lullaby. More from the beach tomorrow.

  1. Absolutely enchanting! I think I've said it before, but it's worth repeating here - The NZ Tourist Commission (if there is such a thing) should be paying you!

  2. There is definitely a NZ Tourism group. The country is swamped with visitors mainly in the summer season (it's winter here now) and I think we want to keep that a secret (!)...
