Coromandel Peninsula: Whangamata

Whangamata is quiet now, a lazy little town of 3500 with a focus on surfing. We set out on a walk this morning that would take us 7.5 miles down the beach and back through town for the inevitable flat white break.

Our little motel is situated just a block from the harbor.

It gives way to a large arc of beach. The blues are alive today.




 Homes dot the graceful dunes.


 When we could walk no further we rounded a bend to escape the wind.

This was a good first stop for us on our way up the east coast of the Coromandel. Tomorrow we'll head to Hahei.
