Okarito To Fox Glacier

I awoke to the pattering of rain this morning on the caravan roof and my first thought was: all the driftwood will be too wet for a fire. Art feels bereft without the extra batteries/solar panel he has on our camper at home to power lights and computers, making it difficult to stay long at a non-electric site. We decide to leave the absolute quiet of Okarito and head to Fox Glacier.

It's a thrilling drive, bending and twisting its way up and then down, the drama unfolding even in the rain.

Here's the route (click here to view if reading on email).

A couple of years ago we took a spectacular heli flight over the glaciers on a clear sunny day. If you'd like to see, click here.

We're camping here tonight, under a low ceiling of clouds, all tucked in and still loving NZ, come rain or come shine.
